University announces credit card breach

Posted by Lori Kelly on September 2, 2009

The security of up to 242 university-funded credit cards has been compromised, the University of Vermont recently discovered. Ann Naylor of UVM Procurement Services said in a statement that UVM is unaware of how the breach occured.

UVM discovered the issue when the school was notified by its bank. UVM was mailed a list of the affected cards, with cardholder names. Many of the names appear on the list multiple times.

As a result UVM has cancelled compromised cards and is in the process of issuing new ones.
